Shelby County Christian Home Educators (SCCHE)

Mission and Vision

A Christian coop of approximately 30 families that meets Friday mornings, September through April.  Classes for Preschool through High School.  Emphasis on hands-on, interactive learning within groups.  In addition to classes, we also offer periodic fieldtrips and end the year with a Share Fair program.  Our goal is to supplement parents' efforts without adding the burden of homework (with rare exceptions). Yearly membership fees are $20 for each of first two children in family, $10 per child for each additional child. 

 

Curricula

We use a variety of curricula, eclectic in nature, and generally as source material only. Our teachers endeavor to use the information from the books they have chosen in an interesting and fun way in order to engage the children in their learning. All classes 1st grade through high school have P.E. Other classes offered vary each semester; science, hands-on history, art, speech, critical thinking, etc.

Parent Teachers or Outside Instructors?

Atleast one parent of each family is required to be a teacher or helper each semester.

Meeting Times

Friday mornings from 9:00 to 12:15.

Classes take place at Shelbyville Community Church in Shelbyville, IN.  The church is located one mile east of Wal-Mart on St. Rd. 44.
