I have homeschooled 3 daughters beginning in 1992.  Two have graduated and are attending IUS.   When they were elementary school age, we did a lot of unit studies especially for literature, history and science.  As they approached high school we used more of a textbook approach (Apologia, Math-U-See, etc.), plus a few co-op classes.  They were all involved in debate and speech which we found to be very helpful in preparing them to face the "real world" with critical thinking skills and ability to communicate.

     I would like to encourage all new homeschoolers to relax and enjoy their children, especially when they are elementary age and younger.  Read a lot to them.  Our read-aloud time is some of our fondest memories now.    Homeschooling is a wonderful journey for your family!

I am a homeschooling mother of four kids - three girls and a son.  My kids range in age from 11 to 17, and they have been homeschooled from pre-school.  I guess that makes me a "veteran"!  : )

I would be happy to offer information and encouragement to new and discouraged homeschoolers in Southern Indiana.  I have an M.A. in Counseling and I love to see how God works in people's lives when they seek Him for help. 

There are a variety of ways a person can home educate their children effectively - what works for one mom might not be the best 'fit' for another.  I have used a wide variety of curriculum over these 13 years, and have made effective use of co-ops, homeschool support groups, cottage schools.  Where there's a will, there's a way!
